TURCO® 1270-5
ENVIRONMENTALLY ADVANTAGED
WATER-BASED PAINT SOFTENER/REMOVER
TURCO 1270-5 is a viscous white to light brown emulsion that does not contain any of the hazardous or
highly toxic components of conventional paint removers. It is free of chlorinated solvents, phenol,
chromates, free alkali and free acid. Under most federal regulations, TURCO 1270-5 is classified as nonhazardous.
TURCO 1270-5 has an extremely low evaporation rate and will remain active for more than 24 hours.
Initially TURCO 1270-5 was developed as a paint softener to be used in combination with blast media
and high pressure water. In practice, however, it became evident that with sufficient time and/or elevated
temperatures, certain paint system were removed without the necessity of blasting or high pressure rinse.
In particular, it may be used to effectively strip the "intermediate" coat in the stripping process whereby an
easily removable intermediate coat is applied between the polyurethane top coat and a more resistant
chromate primer. In the stripping process, only the topcoat and the intermediate coat are stripped,
leaving the chromate primer to be re-coated.
